About the Organization

The Greenwood Legacy Corporation (GLC) is a newly established nonprofit Community Development Corporation dedicated to preserving, honoring, and revitalizing the historic Greenwood District in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Inspired by the legacy of Black Wall Street and the residents of Tulsa, GLC seeks to pay tribute to the past, empower the present, and cultivate a vibrant future for the Kirkpatrick Heights Greenwood community through strategic initiatives, partnerships, and community-driven development. A key focus of GLC is to oversee the implementation of the Kirkpatrick Heights Greenwood Master Plan, fostering economic opportunities, cultural preservation, and community well-being in the district. It aims to transform 56 acres of publicly owned land into a vibrant, mixed-use district forging pathways for future community wealth and cultural healing.

GLC emerged from recommendations of a 30-member Community Governance Working Group in 2023, supported by advisory structures put in place by PartnerTulsa and the City of Tulsa.Governed currently by five North Tulsa residents—each bringing deep roots in community, development, nonprofit leadership, legal, finance, and public health—GLC’s formation reflects a commitment to transparency, cultural respect, and community ownership.

The Opportunity

The Greenwood Legacy Corporation Board of Directors is in search of an entrepreneurial and dynamic Executive Director (ED) to provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for the organization, with a charge to drive the successful execution of the Kirkpatrick Heights-GreenwoodMaster Plan.

As the inaugural Executive Director, the ED will be instrumental in shaping the Corporation's identity, building strong relationships with stakeholders, and leading the realization of its mission. This role demands a deep understanding of community development principles, a commitment to racial equity and historical preservation, exceptional leadership skills, and the ability to inspire and engage diverse partners.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED will be responsible for budget oversight and building out the organization’s staff. They will be expected to maintain and grow key relationships with funders, public agencies, movement allies, and the diverse communities GLC represents.

Tulsa is a growing city with a rich cultural legacy and a complex history—home to the historicGreenwood District, once known as Black Wall Street. Today, Tulsa is a hub for innovation, philanthropy, and civic revitalization, offering a low cost of living, a strong sense of community, and a unique opportunity to lead transformative work at the intersection of history, justice, and equitable development.

The Executive Director will be expected to become an active, engaged presence within theGreenwood and North Tulsa communities. Building trust, cultivating relationships, and leading in a way that is rooted in place are essential to the role. While specific policies around office space, hybrid work, and day-to-day operations will be shaped by the ExecutiveDirector’s leadership, proximity, visibility, and presence are essential to the success of the role.

Compensation for this role is commensurate with experience, skills, and qualifications. The base salary range is $140,000–$160,000, accompanied by a strong benefits package and bonus potential.
